Death certificates identified

The State's former Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Richard Evans, was first to testify as court got back in session Monday morning. Prosecutor Zach Hafer asked Evans to identify 19 death certificates, for each of the 19 murders Whitey Bulger allegedly committed.
Evans says the autopsy on Brian Halloran in 1982 shows he suffered more than 20 gunshot wounds from 14 bullets. Amazingly, none of the bullets hit the 41-year-old's major organs....his death was due to blood loss.
Also in the car -- Michael Donahue, who was shot four times. He died of a head injury at the age of 32.
The jury also heard from 52-year-old Patty Lytle Carlson. She was John Martorano's teenage girlfriend. She testified she was 15 years old when she first took up with hitman John Martorano, who was 35 at the time. She later had a son with him.
She testified she ran off with him to Florida and got envelopes stuffed with cash when he was later in jail. Carlson admitted lying in grand jury testimony.
Also on the stand -- retired FBI agent Gerald Montanari, who handled mobster Brian Halloran. He's been testifying about information Halloran was willing to vouch for, including the murder in Oklahoma of Roger Wheeler. He told agents he'd be willing to wear a recording device to get information on John Callahan, a World Jai Alai executive who wanted to own the business. He's been described as a "wanna-be gangster" who was funneling some profits to the Bulger gang, perhaps a million dollars. Halloran claimed Callahan, Bulger and Flemmi initially wanted him to fly to Tulsa to murder Wheeler. He expressed reservations and didn't get the job. In informant reports, Halloran is quoted as saying he was in fear for his life, and his family's life, and was willing to talk because people were trying to kill him. He was being investigated for a murder in Suffolk County. He not only wanted protection, but also help with making that state investigation go away.
Bulger allegedly murdered Halloran, and Michael Donahue, a few hundred yards from the Moakley Courthouse in May of 1982 once he found out Halloran was working with the FBI. Former agent John Morris admitted he gave John Connolly the information, and it was Connolly who tipped off Bulger.
