The latest digital mammographic imaging screening trial examined data from about 5,000 women.

Researchers say the radiation dose from digital imaging was about 22 percent lower on average than film mammography.

Both methods are similar, but digital mammography collects X-ray images on a computer, while conventional mammograms are captured and stored on film.
