Health & Fitness Expo kicks off
7 Healthcast: Health & Fitness Expo kicks off
The event is two days of important health information, as well as a chance to take part in some cool activities.
“Come on down, no matter what hospital you go to, you’ll get great service,” Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said. “You have nurses here, mini-appointments with doctors also…for small things, just a joyous health fair.”
The event offers a full day of fun for the whole family.
“It’s an amazing two day event for us. There’s nothing like this in the city or the state, and we’re very proud to be a part of it,” said 7NEWS General Manager Chris Wayland.
Everything is free: testing and screening for blood pressure, balance, kidney health -- even a high-tech check of your heart and arteries.
It’s the perfect prescription for starting or keeping a healthy lifestyle.
“That’s what Partners is all about, trying to make sure that our community is healthy, try to make sure we do everything we can do to make that better,” said Dr. William Gormley of Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Also at the Expo: walk through a giant brain, pet specially trained service puppies, stretch to some stress-free yoga, or play a life sized game of Operation.
Many people are making a return visit.
“I actually found out by coming here that I was on the border of high blood pressure,” said Christine Csik.
At last year's Expo, Christine learned she had serious medical issues. She made changes, lost 90 lbs. and came back.
“This is a good place to come to actually get your health checked in a kind of nice no-pressured sort of way, and to get yourself a good reality as to where you are in life,” Csik said.
Lots of people stopped by the 7Weather set to take a shot at being a meteorologist, or they headed to the 7Sports center to do some Red Sox play-by-play.
Kids were entertained with face painting and dancing animals.
Sunday will be another big day at the expo from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hynes Convention Center. Admission is free.
New England Patriots legend Tedy Bruschi will speak at 11 a.m.
"The Biggest Loser" winner Olivia Ward will appear at noon Sunday.
