7 Healthcast: Study finds gene that may prevent Alzheimer's
A new study may have found a way to prevent Alzheimer’s.
The study found a gene that prevents the buildup of brain plaque, long thought to be the cause of the disease.
This gene is very rare. About one in 10,000 carry the gene. Patients with the gene experience less plaque buildup and have better mental function than most adults.
Experts said the most important lesson is that plaque appears to be the main cause of the disease.
