Carolyn Catinazzo, 60, doesn't feel her age, and she doesn't want to look it either. So, she's turning to a new way to turn back time with a new soft tissue filler called Perlane.

"Perlane is used in areas where there is loss of tissue from aging over time," said Mathew Avram, Director of the Dermatology and Cosmetics Center at Mass General Hospital.

So what makes Perlane different than other fillers like Restylane?

"The particles that make up the hyaluronic acid in the Perlane are larger than those in Restylane, so by having the larger particles, they're able to fill more deeply," Avram said.

Avram says the best candidates for Perlane are:

"Patients who have deep lines on the cheek, upper lip area, smile lines, patients who have a loss of volume in the skin under the chin and in the area that we call marionette lines," Avram said.

Today is Carolyn's first time trying Perlane to banish her smile lines, and in a matter of minutes, the procedure is done and she's pleased with the result.

"Right after you have this, you get immediate gratification," Catinazzo said. "It's not thing you have to wait for a couple of weeks. When you leave the office, you feel like you look 10 years younger, and emotionally, you feel better, because when you look better, you feel better."

Perlane costs about $750, depending on the area and lasts for six to eight months.
