The new Female Focus Program at Cooper Fitness Center in Dallas is tailored to women's health- from cancer and arthritis to fibromyalgia and osteoporosis.

"There should've never been any generic program, period, in the fitness field because we are all different and unique. You can hear all day about what the benefits are by doing activity, but you actually have to know what to do to get those benefits," Senior Fitness Trainer Collette Cole said.

The Female Focus Program is not about sitting at a piece of equipment pushing and pulling. It's about functional movement and trunk stability that prepares these women for daily life.

"Say you're walking down the sidewalk and hit a crack in the sidewalk, people that don't go through training like this might just fall down and break their wrist or something. But it teaches you balance, balance, balance," Female Focus participant Patti Kiernan said.

Patti Kiernan has osteoporosis. She works out twice a week.

"You start out at your level, at your speed, your pace. Before you know it, you're addicted," said Kiernan.

The program is a month long, and in addition to working out, the women also attend lectures to learn about diet and other ways to stay healthy.
