7 Healthcast: Stop snoring
"Every night's a good night now," said snoring patient Henry Roberts.
Two and a half years ago almost no night was a good night.
Loud snoring left his wife Ann awake and Henry with sleep apnea, which caused high blood pressure, anxiety and constant sluggishness.
That is, until Dr. Craig Schwimmer put this little, medical gun inside Henry's mouth and shot little plastic pillars into his uvula.
"It took about 5 minutes," Roberts said.
Minutes that have changed Henry's life. He says he hasn't snored one night since. And Ann?
"Once he got this it was just fabulous," she said.
And before he got it, Henry had to go through a complicated pre-sleep ritual every night.
"What you did is you took this mask and you put it on, and this is what you had to wear at night," he said.
Henry had tried several expensive gadgets, all were more expensive than the $2000 he spent on the pillar procedure.
He says he'd easily spend ten times that - because it's lead to much better overall health.
"I think it's easily a hundred percent better," he said.
Henry and Ann say the elimination of one annoying sound, has changed their lives.
The pillar procedure takes about 20 minutes to perform in a doctor's office.
Dr. Schwimmer says it helps nine out of ten of his patients. Not all insurance companies will cover the procedure so check with your provider.(Copyright 2008 Sunbeam Television. All Rights Reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.)
