7 Healthcast: New guidelines for treating ear infections in children

UNDATED (WHDH) -- The American Academy of Pediatrics issued new guidelines for treating ear infections in children.

It recommends careful observation before prescribing antibiotic treatment in kids ages 6 months to 12 years old.

This is to reduce the overuse of unnecessary antibiotics.

Middle-ear infections are the most common bacterial illness in children and the one most often treated with antibiotics.
