Help Me Hank: Help Me Hank! Major league mistake
Who's your favorite Red Sox player? Every fan has an answer.
Red Sox Fan
"Manny Ramirez, he's number 1."
Red Sox Fan
"Big Papi, no question."
Red Sox Fan
"Jason Varitek. Trot Nixon. Right there."
Ask 16 year old Brian Shone and he doesn’t have to think twice.
Brian Shone, Red Sox Fan
"Without a doubt, Coco Crisp."
Back in his Cleveland days Coco was number 10, but when the center fielder arrived in Boston, as Sox fans know, Tony Graffanino wore number 10.
All through spring training Brian watched Coco now sporting his new Red Sox number: 12. Coco fan Brian also needed to wear a 12.
Brian Shone, Red Sox Fan
"Immediately I wanted a jersey, Coco Crisp jersey."
So Brian got online to order one and here's what arrived.
Hank Phillippi Ryan
"When you saw this, what did you think?"
Brian Shone, Red Sox Fan
"I thought it was a great."
But Brian was only briefly excited, then came the news that Graffanino was gone and Coco was getting his old number 10 back. Brian’s cool new jersey was instantly old hat.
Hank Phillippi Ryan
"Where did that leave you?"
Brian Shone, Red Sox Fan
"Definitely all mad cause I paid $100 for the jersey."
That's when Brian's biggest fan, his mom, took the field. She called the online company for some number negotiations.
Roberta Shone, Brian’s mom
"I asked if I could return it. I even asked them if they would just take it back and put the correct number on it."
Hank Phillippi Ryan
"And they said?"
Roberta Shone, Brian’s mom
"And they said no."
It was game time at Fenway, but would this number one fan be stuck with the wrong number jersey? Not if his cheering section could help it.
Roberta Shone, Brian’s mom
"When all else failed I went online and I sent you an e-mail."
We went straight to the source for a shirt substitution and Red Sox ambassador Colleen Reilly played ball.
Colleen knew the online company couldn’t have known about the future number swap, so she hit a home run for Brian and got him a number 10 Coco jersey.
Colleen Reilly, Red Sox Ambassador
"We have this jersey for you."
Brian Shone, Red Sox Fan
"Thank you."
Now this fan can cheer on his favorite Red Sox player in a matching shirt.
Brian Shone, Red Sox Fan
"This is great."
And he wants the team to know he's still a believer.
Brian shone
"Go Sox."
Online purchases and special orders have stringent return policies. Brian was not going to win this one. Remember, when you order online you get convenience, but you may lose some recourse.
