Computer Clash

Help Me Hank: Computer Clash

Julie and Mike have a little house in New Hampshire.

  • They have a new engagement ring
  • They have mike's wedding tuxedo all picked out.

What they do not have is a computer. And that’s where the problem began.

Julie
"It was just very, very annoying."

It started when newlyweds to be Julie and Mike did buy a computer, but turned out it was not what they wanted.

Mike
"The computer looked like it was from the 50's."

Julie
"He got a bad deal."

So, exactly according to proper procedure, they boxed it all up and shipped it back. They had the paperwork, they had the receipts, but they did not have the computer - they returned it.

Julie
"We didn't think we would have a problem."

But soon after, they started getting bills. Bills for the computer. Bills for the computer they did not have.

Julie
"We just kept getting bills and they kept getting bigger and bigger."

They explained: they did not have the computer. Then bill collectors started calling.

Mike
"They called a lot."

Julie
"It was like every other day."

They faxed this tracking info to prove the computer was shipped and received - they explained over and over they did not have the computer. The company did not care.

Mike
"They were like you just have to pay the bill."

It got so bad, the couple was actually turned down for a mortgage, all because they supposedly owed money for a computer they did not have.

Julie
"I was fuming. I was so mad."

That’s when they called help me hank.

So we called the company. We told them, this didn't seem like a tough one.

Hank Philllippi Ryan
"Records show you have the computer!"

And soon after, this arrived instead of a bill - a letter giving them a full refund, and even an apology!

Julie
"We were so happy we were jumping up and down."

And here's the double happy ending - that allowed their mortgage to go through - and now they're on their way to a new home.

Julie
"We're outta here!"

Three little words: keep your receipts! It was only because we could prove the computer was properly returned and received that this problem was solved! If you're fighting a consumer battle, maybe I can help!
