The Hiller Instinct: 7News/Suffolk Poll: Decision '04
Our poll says, right now, John Kerry has more support here than any other democratic candidate, but it also shows an equal percentage of voters are still undecided.
That means Kerry hasn't put either Howard Dean or Wesley Clark away and that either one of them could still put Kerry away.
According to our poll, Kerry's surge has stopped. While Howard Dean's free-fall has stopped, too.
And while Wesley Clark is starting to go up, our poll of likely democratic primary voters shows Kerry and undecided at 26 percent, Dean at 19 and Clark at 17 percent.
But our daily difference shows Kerry losing a point, Dean staying steady and Clark picking up two percent.
Prof. David Paleologos, Suffolk Univ. Pollster
"The head-to-head tells me that’s John Kerry’s lead in Jeopardy and that this race could become a three-way race."
Our tracking poll puts it in perspective. You can see Kerry's surge tapering off, Dean's dramatic drop leveling off and Clark moving closer to Dean and Kerry.
We found two key factors stopping Kerry's surge…
Prof. David Paleologos
"Women, a day ago he was winning by 14 percent, today 11 percent. And middle-aged voters aged 35 to 54 years, three percent drop in that category alone."
And we also found one intriguing explanation for Clark's climb…
Prof. David Paleologos
"The central region is one area where he has made strides and that’s an area that is less influenced by Vermont television or Massachusetts television."
And here's something else our poll suggests, a frenzied, final four days here. No one in New Hampshire will work harder between now and primary day than John Kerry, Howard Dean and Wesley Clark. Because, after the primary, one of them may have no more campaign work to do.
