Kerry \'Virtual\' Nominee, Bush on the Defense

The Hiller Instinct: Kerry 'Virtual' Nominee, Bush on the Defense

Sen. John Kerry (D) Presidential Candidate
"We would like to say a very special thank you to the state of Washington and the state of Michigan for giving us great victories..."

This weekend Kerry won not only in Michigan and Washington, but also in Maine, giving him victories in ten of the twelve democratic contests so far, and making him a far ahead frontrunner.

Sen. John Kerry (D) Presidential Candidate
"And I've only just begun to fight."

The only fight the democrats have left is in the South, where there are two primaries tomorrow, and where John Edwards and Wesley Clark are battling to become the alternatives to Kerry…

Sen. John Edwards (D) Presidential Candidate
"This is the guy who can beat George Bush every place in America, in the North, in the West, in the Midwest and right here in the South."

Wesley Clark (D) Presidential Candidate
"I'm running for this office based on the values I grew up with in Arkansas."

All the attention on the democrats, and all their criticism of George Bush, forced the president to "Meet the Press" Sunday, to defend his attack on Saddam Hussein, who may not have any weapons of mass destruction.

President George W. Bush
"He had the capacity to have a weapon, make a weapon. We thought he had weapons. The international community thought he had weapons. But he had the capacity to make a weapon and then let that weapon fall into the hands of a shadowy terrorist network."

Kerry pounced, well aware that's not what Bush said before the war…

President George W. Bush
"The Iraqi regime continues to posses and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised."

Sen. John Kerry (D) Presidential Candidate
"Now the president is giving us a new reason for sending people to war, and the problem is not just that he is changing his story now, it is that it appears he was telling the American people stories in 2002."

And Kerry, a decorated Vietnam vet, now also has whether Bush fulfilled his commitment to the Texas Air National Guard as an issue…

President George W. Bush
"There may be no evidence, but I did report; otherwise, I wouldn't have been honorably discharged."

Sen. John Kerry (D) Presidential Candidate
"Just because you get an honorable discharge does not in fact answer that question."

The president's appearance on TV is a sign of his weakness; the inter-play with John Kerry a sign of Kerry's strength. Kerry is now the democrat's "virtual" nominee. And if he wins in Virginia and Tennessee tomorrow, you can drop the "virtual" because that will clinch it.
