The Hiller Instinct: Gas tax
Now there are "leaders" at the State House who will tell you it's not necessarily true. The Senate President, for example, says "we've been very clear; reform before revenue."
Let me be very clear: before there's reform on Beacon Hill, the sky will fall.
That's reality. Because the people who get paid by the taxes we pay are the least likely to change a system that benefits them most. Which is why I'm shocked and appalled that the House Minority Leader actually put out a press release claiming that he was shocked and appalled that "Governor Patrick is once again considering diving into the pockets and purses of Massachusetts taxpayers."
Want to know what would really be surprising, and even shocking? The feeling that instead of us working for state government, it worked for us.
I'm Andy Hiller, and that's my instinct.
