The Hiller Instinct: Debate Dos and Don’ts
So, as a campaign contribution, here's what I'd suggest the debaters do and don’t do tonight.
Martha Coakley says she's passionate, but many voters still appear unconvinced.
So, Coakley's biggest do tonight is to take a chance, and prove she's passionate. Do not, Madam Attorney General, call the movers yet because this race is not over.
Scott Brown is still in it, and to stay in it, tonight he should swing for the fences, go for the gold, let it all hang out...say it however you like; you get the point.
Brown should not confuse or compare himself tonight to JFK, or anyone else whom he clearly isn't.
Tonight may be your first, and last, look at Independent Candidate Joe Kennedy.
What Kennedy should do is enjoy the moment to share his views...But he shouldn't enjoy it too much by trying to dominate the event.
The campaign for the Senate seat has been very short. Votes can still change; and this is the last debate before the election next week.
So it matters: because this debate can freeze the race, or blow it wide open.
