The Hiller Instinct: Who's going to win?

The most significant question on everyone's mind right now is- who's going to win... And how soon might we know?

Unfortunately, later than you'd like, and later than usual.

Normally on an election day, this is the time when we'd be telling you about exit polls--polls taken after people actually vote.

But, today, there won't be any exit polls, because the company that questions voters at polling places decided weeks ago there wasn't enough interest in this race to justify the expense of setting them up.

Was that a mistake? Yes!

But can you understand it? I hope so, because two weeks ago this was shaping up as an exercise, not an election.

So, tonight we may have to do it the old-fashioned way...and wait until the votes are counted. If the race is close, we could be waiting for hours. And if the race is really close, we might not know until tomorrow--or for days-- whom our next senator is.

Now, we're not going to just wait around at 7News. Our pollster from Suffolk University will be here all night if necessary....and at the moment he knows who's won, we'll tell you.
