The Hiller Instinct: Illegal Immigration Laws
So it's left to states to try to clean up Washington's mess.
Now it's Beacon Hill talking about a crackdown on illegal immigrants...ending taxpayer funded benefits.
And when it gets past talk, watch out!
“Si se puede!” protestors shouted.
Arizona is in turmoil because it just passed a law requiring immigrants to carry documents proving they're here legally. Arizona police can question anyone they reasonably suspect isn't.
The reaction is another example of why our politics is paralyzed: every thought is exaggerated and extreme.
"What has happened in Arizona is very similar to what happened in Nazi Germany,” Chicago City Councilor Daniel Solis said.
"When they can't get you on anything else, they throw up the race card," Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio said.
The president has it right when he says: “Our failure to act responsibly at the Federal level will only open the door to irresponsibility to others…"
But I think he's wrong when he adds: "That includes, for example, the recent efforts in Arizona, which threaten to undermine basic notion of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe.”
Are you serious, Mr. President? Our basic notion of fairness is the rule of law--equally enforced.
As for trust, how can anyone support a government that ignores the laws it doesn't like?
Illegal immigration is illegal.
Make it legal, or treat it as a crime.
