The Hiller Instinct: TSA Screenings
America is broke and at war, and with Thanksgiving just days away, our nation's number one problem seems to be searches at airports.
On Saturday Night Live, they're already a joke. The show said, “Spending time with a TSA agent couldn't be easier.”
Unless you're Rip Van Winkle, you know the choices airport travelers now face: get a scan that sees through your clothes, or let a security agent actually touch you through you clothes.
You don't have to be the Secretary of State to think that's really not much of a choice at all:
When asked if she would “submit to one of these pat-downs,” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on CBS's Face the Nation, “Not if I could avoid it. No. I mean, who would?”
No one - that's who. And that's why the Internet driven National Opt-Out Day could cause chaos and confusion on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving.
I understand the principle: give airports as much misery as they're giving us. That will show them!
VIEWER VOICES: Should passengers participate in "Opt Out Day?"
But, in fact, it will just slow down, and not show up, the security agents. They'll take their time, and that will cost you even more of yours.
But I'd like you to eat your turkey on Thursday, not Friday or Saturday.
So, please, do yourself a favor: don't opt-out at the airport Wednesday. Think of it as opting-in to thanksgiving.
I’m Andy Hiller, and that’s my instinct.
