Obama - GOP Tax Deal
The Hiller Instinct: Obama - GOP Tax Deal
Because, by any reasonable measure, our government is, at best, out of control, and, at worst, out of its mind.
When the going got hard, Washington got soft.
Just last week, the President's deficit commission called for four trillion dollars in tax hikes and spending cuts to begin to balance the nation's budget.
Please hear that:
A special commission of Republicans and Democrats concluded that taxes must go up, and federal spending must go down.
Not one or the other, but both.
And what's Washington's response?
A 900-billion dollar package that hikes spending and cuts taxes.
900 billion dollars!
VIEWER VOICES: What do you think about the President's tax plan?
That's more than last year's stimulus package, which was 787 billion.
Why don't we just round it off to a trillion?
And where are all these new hundreds of billions of dollars going to come from?
How about the bank of china? And any other place we can borrow it.
Ignore the talk about who wins and who loses in this proposal, because there aren't any winners.
The President loses credibility for breaking a campaign promise to end tax cuts for the wealthy.
That makes Democrats losers, too.
And the Republicans lose trust for increasing the deficit, despite all their promises not to.
But the biggest losers are us. Somehow, we, and our kids, have to pay for it all.
I always thought Washington would finally see the light when the bill came due. Now I'm afraid they're turning out the lights.
I'm Andy Hiller, and that's my instinct.
