The Hiller Instinct: NH Suffolk Tracking Poll
In our exclusive 7News/Suffolk University poll, Romney stays on top with 40%; Ron Paul remains in second with 17%, while Rick Santorum, with 11%, continues to gain support and is closing his gap with Romney and Paul.
Newt Gingrich is fourth, with 9%, a point ahead of Jon Huntsman, at 8%. Rick Perry is last with 1%, and 15% say they're still undecided.
Our daily tracking shows why Romney should worry: during the past day, Romney lost another point, and his support is now the lowest it's been all week.
Ron Paul also lost a point, so he didn't gain any ground. But Rick Santorum sure has; he's up three points since yesterday, and six points since Tuesday.
Newt Gingrich is also up, by two points, giving him a total of 9%, and a slim one point edge over Jon Huntsman.
So Mitt Romney is down, and his major opponent is up. Since the Iowa caucus, Romney has lost support, while Santorum’s has more than doubled.
Plus, Santorum has broken a symbolic barrier: he's now in double digits.
And that's the Romney nightmare: he wins the race here, but loses momentum heading into the South Carolina primary.
But that's not a nightmare -- it's what New Hampshire voters are telling us while they're wide awake.
