The Hiller Instinct: Hiller Instinct: 7News/ Suffolk University poll
You can sum up the numbers you just saw, and all those you're about to see with one word: landslide, because that is where we're headed tomorrow.
This "race" has been over for weeks. The only question Election Day will answer is, "How big will Deval Patrick's victory be?"
Whether or not you support Patrick, you should be impressed by the depth of his support in our poll.
Prof. David Paleologos, Suffolk University pollster
"If you fan out all the demographic categories, he's winning gender, he's winning area, he’s winning party and age. The only demographic he's losing is among registered Republicans."
Andy Hiller, 7News Political Editor
"So how much do we think he'll win by?"
Prof. David Paleologos, Suffolk University pollster
"Deval Patrick according to the poll will defeat Kerry Healey (when all the votes are counted) by about 500 thousand votes, or more."
Andy Hiller, 7News Political Editor
"And what do you think the margin will be?"
Prof. David Paleologos, Suffolk University pollster
"Twenty-two percent."
Andy Hiller, 7News Political Editor
"Is there any way Kerry Healey can win?"
Prof. David Paleologos, Suffolk University pollster
"We're so far outside the margin of error here, it's highly improbable that Kerry Healey wins."
Andy Hiller, 7News Political Editor
"That's as close to impossible as you're going to say?"
Prof. David Paleologos, Suffolk University pollster
"Right. Right."
With no surprise expected in the governor's race, more attention is turning to ballot question one, which would permit the sale of wine in food stores.
Our exclusive 7News/Suffolk poll shows 42 percent of likely voters are ready to vote "Yes," 51 percent "No," and 7 percent are undecided.
Prof. David Paleologos, Suffolk University pollster
"Based on this poll, we would predict that question one fails."
Andy Hiller, 7News Political Editor
"How sure are you of that?"
Prof. David Paleologos, Suffolk University pollster
"It's almost outside the statistical margin of error. If you're asking me to call it, I would say the 'No' side prevails."
Tomorrow also brings the end to what is sure to be remembered as one of the nastiest gubernatorial races here ever. I don't know about you, but I won't be sorry to see it go.
