The Hiller Instinct: Hiller Instinct: Deval Patrick book deal

Deval Patrick likes to say he "gets it," but he doesn't. Once again, at a critical time, he showed us he has no sense of timing. And no understanding that in politics and life, timing is everything.

Just yesterday, a front page story in the New York Times shouted "A leader who urged change struggles in Massachusetts," and now we're learning he missed a key vote on casino gambling because he was in New York pitching a book about his life.

Governor, that was a losing bet. How can you be a stand-up guy if you're not even at the state house to stand behind the people who are willing to go down with you?

But since you want a book, how about taking part of the times' headline:
"Early Dazzle..." and adding: "Then Fizzle."

I checked out the best sellers' lists, and it's too bad these titles are already taken:
"Remember Me?"
"Losing It"

But here are two that aren't:
"One Life, One Term"
"From the Windy City to Just Wind"

And if you believe, as I think you might, that you're worthy of a classic title, may I suggest:
"The Drapes of Wrath"

After the book, you'd probably like a movie: how about "Caddyshack?" Or a TV series? "LOST!"

Governor, this is not all funny. The state has serious problems. And no one wants to read another book about another elected official who had so much promise, and wasted it, by trying to turn a public job into a private bank.

I'm Andy Hiller, and that's my Instinct.
