The Hiller Instinct: Hiller Instinct: State of the Union
Our national debt is now over $8 trillion...more than $26,000 per American. Can you afford to write the check to cover your share?
The President wants to expand healthcare, but we're already spending more, and more people don't have insurance.
In 2000, total healthcare spending was $1.3 trillion, and there were 40 million of us uninsured.
In 2004, we spent $1.9 trillion... and 46 million had no health insurance, but most people don't make political opinions based on one issue, like healthcare, they put many together.
If you put many recent opinion polls together, it's clear a majority of Americans is not satisfied with the state of the union:
- Just 43 percent approve of the job president bush is doing.
- Less than 35 percent approve of how congress is performing.
- Only 41 percent give the economy a positive rating
- and 33 percent say the country is going in the right direction.
Tonight the President said the state of the union is strong, and that, together, we'll make it stronger. But these numbers say we're not together, we're divided!
And please note that I didn't even mention the war.
