Huddle at Home: Coach Dean Pees
He may not be on the football field, but he's definitely making the plays! 7's Kirsten Watson sits down with Pats Defensive Coach Dean Pees and his family in tonight's Huddle at Home.
Coach Pees says, "You can spot the guy in the red jacket to see who was giving the signal. That is why it is done."
Wife Melody says, "His mom loves it. She says it all the time. ‘I love that red shirt because when the camera pans through I say, Oh there was Dean!'"
Off the field, Coach Pees and his wife Melody are parents to six and grandparents to two.
Football has been a way of life for the Ohio native. During his thirty-six year career he coached high school and college ball, before joining the Pats.
Kirsten Watson asks, "Dean, what do you like most about coaching?"
Coach Pees says, "I would say over all, it is just really being around young people. It keeps you young, makes you feel young, always seeing the energy they have. It is something different everyday. It is not a boring job."
When Coach Pees is not on the sideline coaching the defense you can find him at his piano. Not only playing music, but writing it.
He says, "I can't read music, so I write my own. It is by memory, not by writing it down. I have copyrights to 24 songs."
So whether he's coming up with new music or coming up with new plays, Coach Pees says the key to success is being happy with what you're doing.
Coach Pees says, "The one thing you want to be able to do and say for your whole life, when you go into work, you want to go into work. If you hate getting up in the morning and going in to do your job that is not the way to live your life."
For Huddle at Home, I'm Kirsten Watson, 7News.
