Parent to Parent: Babies at work

Posted: 01/07/08
If being a full-time mom isn't hard enough, try being a full-time working mom.

Emily and four-month-old Anniston spend every moment together, at home, in the car, and at the office.

Emily Dalton, mom
"I wish all businesses out there would do this."

Emily works for a company that takes part in infants at work program.

Emily Dalton, mom
"It gives you peace of mind during that first 6 months. Plus you're able to take of their needs."

And she's not alone. Just walk through the office, past the strollers, and you'll find other working moms with their babies by their side.

Mom Blanca has five children. The infants at work program saves her from using daycare.

Blanca Hernandez, mom
"That's one of the great things about being here. I can bring him here and save money. And he's here, that's the best part."

Susan Hoff, Child Care Group
"It really does work."

The program also says it helps improve employee retention and reduce absenteeism.

Susan Hoff, Child Care Group
"Employers lose billions of dollars every year in employer absenteeism directly related to childcare problems."

And it seems to be a hit at the office.

Emily Dalton, mom
"It's definitely a plus. It gives you time to bond with the children."

After all no one said it was easy being a mother - but at this office it doesn't nearly have to be as hard.
