Parent to Parent: Kids vitamins
Some parents spend a lot of money on vitamins, trying to make sure their children get the nutrients they need, but some experts say those vitamins may not be necessary.
It's morning ritual for many parents: doling out daily vitamins.

"Come get your vitamins. What color do you want sweetie?"
Mary Beth, a mother of four, says it makes her feel better knowing her kids are getting a nutritional supplement.

"Unfortunately, I cannot ensure that they will have a balanced meal every day and for every mealtime and that just gives me peace of mind."
But some pediatricians say kids don't need them- that even the pickiest eaters should get enough nutrition from the basic food groups.
Dr. Jennifer Shu, pediatrician
"The bottom line is that children don't need vitamin supplements. They're going to get the vitamins they need in a good, regular balanced diet."
But when it comes to nutritional supplements- Dr. Shu doesn't fault parents for trying.

"If you want to give your child a daily vitamin, there is likely no harm in doing so. Just make sure you follow the directions exactly."
In most cases, that means just one vitamin a day.
And another tip for moms and dads- doctors say vitamins should never be referred to as candy because kids could get the wrong idea and take too many.
