Double Dutch, it can be fun and a good source of cardio, but as some young girls in Roslindale are finding out, it has other benefits too.

Kimberly Zouzoua, director of community collaboration for the Girl Scouts of eastern Massachusetts
"They're also learning how to build up their team building skills and they take leadership in developing their own activities and how they want to come together as well."

The girl scouts of eastern Massachusetts are finding ways to help girls build life skills.

Kimberly Zouzoua, director of community collaboration for the Girl Scouts of eastern Massachusetts
"So we provide these safe havens for the girls to come out and learn to build and grow into tomorrow's leaders."

And the girls, like Kenya Williams look forward to coming.

Kenya Williams, program participant
"I like Double Dutch because it's fun and it keeps me healthy and there's things I can share with the other girls."

And the kids aren't the only ones who get something out of it, mothers like Selena try and set an example too.

Selena Rankin,parent and coach
"I am trying to be a little more civic and get into the types of activities where I am able to give back to my community."

Mom Hyacinth couldn't agree more--

Hyacinth, mother
"It's good to see people out here try to show that everything is not negative you know and that there are good kids in the neighborhood and that they're involved in positive things."

And those positive experiences they have today will help mold them into the leaders of tomorrow.
