Protecting Your Pet: Pet parties

Posted: 11/19/07
The pet industry generates about 35 billion dollars a year. So it's no surprise that in-home parties designed to help owners pick out pet products are a big hit.

From toys to tasty treats, we love to spoil our furry friends with the latest pet products.

Chris Giles, pet owner
"Dogs are more than just dogs, they're members of people's families."

And now, there's a new way to pamper your pet. The parties are a spin-off of the popular Tupperware parties. The in-home gatherings are for both owners and their pets.

Corinna Spinale, Shure Pets consultant
"We have samples of shampoos and different things that people can smell and try on their animals and toys that people can try out to see if the animals like before they buy them which is terrific."

Pets try out everything from bowls to blankets.

Chris Giles, pet owner
"It was just great, the dogs got to play, the dogs got to hang out, the parents got to intermingle and we got to see products. We got to buy stuff, the dogs got to play with the toys, and it was great."

But the party doesn't end there.

Corinna Spinale, Shure Pets consultant
"We have games. We start with a door prize and then we go into games we do bobbing for hot dogs which is fun."

Fun for owners, and a dog-gone good time for their pets too.
