Room For Improvement: Franciscan Hospital for Children waiting room

Inside New England's largest pediatric rehabilitation center is this waiting room. It's an area set aside for parents to stay in when their children are trying to heal. It's a home a home from home that's a little blue.

"It's a room utilized quite a bit, because we have families who will stay over."

Let's admit it. This room at the Franciscan Hospital For Children is a little warn. But no need to worry. Our designer, Duncan Hughes, has the prescription for perfection.

"I wanted to really create a place in a hospital that was unclinical, and somewhere that parents could come and really feel like they were transported to somewhere else and not think about the hospital for a little while."

Out comes the old carpet, down goes the glue and then our new carpet donated by Landry & Arcari is rolled out. It's a nice neutral color to match the light colored walls, generously painted by All American Painting.

In come a few key pieces for storage and then comes the sleek couch. And because there needs to be extra seating, a matching chair is unwrapped and so are two bamboo style armchairs.

Now, it's time to add some splashes of color. A pillow here, a vase there and a fountain help make this hospital room feel not like a hospital room.

"Thanks to generous donations, this a pretty nice room to wait in when times are tough. The budget was $4000 and our designers spent $3,945. This is just what the doctor ordered."

So what does the hospital staff think?

"Oh wow. Oh wow. Goodness. It really does look nice in here."
