Room For Improvement: Beautiful blue bedroom
Your bedroom is the place you can go to relax and unwind. So when one couple wanted to make theirs a comfortable and soothing space, our design team was up for the challenge.
The Pipers are a young family with one old bedroom.
Mary Piper, homeowner
"Our room is a very bright yellow, which was nice many years ago when we painted it, but it really needs to go. It's a little too bright."
Derek Piper, homeowner
"It's also a little bit cold with nothing on the floor, and the drapes are past their prime right now."
Designer Linda Stimson of Inner Visions Interiors knows exactly how to turn this room into a warm cozy retreat.
First, it's goodbye yellow and hello blue.

"They like this color blue. This sweater was the key starting point in terms of color."
Edwin Cruz of Cruz Painting Company brings on the blue by painting the walls and the closet doors.

"The reason that we went with the blue on the wood work as well is because we wanted to hide some of that and make it feel more like a complete room."
Store-bought curtains hung by Mitcho are given an extra special touch with red beads.
Mitch Heydt, Mitcho
"They have a very, very nice flow, and they add a certain airiness [and] elegance to the room."
The couple's furniture stays and gets updated with fresh new bedding.
A bright red throw and accent pillows add a splash of color to the room.
Linda Stimson, Inner Visions Interiors
"So when you do add red to a room, [use] little bits, little bits. Red is a very, very strong color."
There is also red in a romantic Georgia O'Keefe poppies painting and a hand-painted glass mirror.
Before this room looked like it would be called "Old Yeller."
Now, it's a beautiful blue boudoir.
Mary and Derek Piper, homeowners
"Oh, wow. Wow."
Derek Piper, homeowner
"This is really nice."
Mary Piper, homeowner
"I love it. It is so beautiful."
Derek Piper, homeowner
"I like the rug."
Mary Piper, homeowner
"Very nice, very nice. Very relaxing. Linda, thank you. This is perfect!"
It's hard to imagine that all of this started with the couple liking the color of a blue sweater. Our designer spent about $4,000 on this room, which the Pipers say they will be enjoying for years to come.
