Room For Improvement: Cohasset living room

The O'Day family hasn't done much "living" in their living room.

Tucker O'Day, homeowner
"We just can't seem to figure what's gonna make it work, so it's just sitting bare, blah."

They want to make it more comfortable, so they can entertain family and friends.

Scott O'Day, homeowner
"I'd like it to be a usable living space, a bit modern, but I'd like it to maintain some of the characteristics of the older part of the house."

Designer Robin Pelissier and her team from Robin's Nest are here to give the space a fresh new look. To start, a new rug defines the room.

Robin Pelissier, Robin's Nest
"The room really dictated to us one, full-area rug to make the room feel larger and more cohesive."

Then, Robin uses different textures to enhance the feeling. Woven blinds add depth and eliminate the need for fabric curtains. Rattan chairs brought in from another room add style to the seating.

Robin Pelissier, Robin's Nest
"Woods, any natural textures or fibers, all work beautifully together."

A little green gives a big effect.

Robin Pelissier, Robin's Nest
"Just enough color to sort of elevate the feeling of the room and give it a nice fresh quality."

The O'Days' eclectic art collection is combined with modern pieces to liven up the room.

Robin Pelissier, Robin's Nest
"We found these two really contemporary, but again, very textural. Very over-scale pieces to add some volume [and] some depth to the space."

A few simple accents maintain the room's classic roots.

The living room flows into the dining room, so the team gives that space a complimentary design. White vases and red pillows, added for color, bring a contemporary feel to this room.

Robin Pelissier, Robin's Nest
"We really brought it into the 2000s by adding this very modern, overhead light fixture."

Are the O'Days pleased with their double-duty makeover?

Tucker O'Day, homeowner
"I love it! This is great. It doesn't look like the same room."

The O'Days say they can't wait to show off the new look. This two room re-do cost about $4,000.
