Room For Improvement: Living room layout
Jennifer, homeowner
"It has no life. I want it to be a wow. I don't like the way it, it's just dead."
Designer Martin Amado is here to revive this empty space.

"The biggest problem with the living room right now, it's very one dimensional. We're going to add more contrast by bringing in accessories with a darker color. We are also going to concentrate on some other empty areas such as the niche and this corner right here, and it's going to pull the entire design together."
First the furniture is re-arranged.
Martin Amado, designer
"Now at least we have a better grouping when you first walk into the home."
Curtains, a rug, artwork and some mood lighting enhance this space.
Martin Amado, designer
"Well we already have the main portion of the living room done, so let's go ahead and concentrate on some other areas that are still visible when you walk into the house for Jennifer."
So a mirror goes up in the foyer.
Martin Amado, designer
"This piece gives us the best of both worlds. It has a mirrored back and at the same time it's a beautiful piece of wall art to look at."
Just a few more accents help this area look and smell beautiful.
Martin Amado, designer
"A diffuser will not only make the room smell great, but it also adds a sculptural element. And this is our final touch."
Does this room get a wow, now?
Jennifer, homeowner
"I love it."
The new layout and accessories make this living room much warmer and also inviting. This transformation was complete for under $1500.
