Martin Amado, designer
"Room For Improvement. Why are you unhappy with your living room right now?"

Rosa, homeowner
"When we bought the TV it's a little bit, I guess, large-sided, and it doesn't fit in."

Martin Amado, designer
"Are you ok if I rummage through your house and try to find some pieces that might work?"

Rosa, homeowner
"Absolutely, please."

Martin Amado, designer
"Now, you do have an assistant for me I believe?"

Rosa, homeowner
"I do."

Martin Amado, designer
"So I don't have to do all the work by myself, your daughter Natasha is going to help me out today. I hope your mom doesn't get mad. But, you see, I found these bookcases in her bedroom, and I think they work much better in the living room."

Time to bring out the bookcases. They are going to work perfect in here.

Martin Amado, designer
"All right, that was tough, but, you know what, we've got to keep on going because it's a one-day makeover. So let's go."

Natasha, homeowner
"All right."

There is no sitting around on this job as Martin puts up curtains, a modern shelf and some art work to help balance the new with the old.

Natasha, homeowner
"Wow. That looks really good."

The couches are moved around and some side tables help create a great sitting area.

It's important when you have a lot of the same things, like books, that you group them together to make a nice collection.

Martin Amado, designer
"All right, Natasha, this is the final touch right here. It's the sun in the middle of our baskets, which are now properly displayed. So what do you think?

Natasha, homeowner
"I think my mom's really going to like it."

Martin Amado, designer
"I hope she does. Natasha, I'll let you do the honors. Do the countdown."

Natasha, homeowner
"One, two, three."

Rosa, homeowner
"Oh, my God. This is beautiful. What a difference."

Martin Amado, designer
"Natasha was a big help. So, you're happy?"

Rosa, homeowner
"Yes, very happy."

By recycling furniture from other rooms in the house, our designer was able to create this cozy living space for under $400.
