Room For Improvement: Animal Rescue League of Boston
We've got another special room makeover for you today. This time it's at the Animal Rescue League in Boston's South End. We're updating the bleak and boring employee break-room for the shelter's hardworking staff. 7's Lauren Przybyl has this week's "Room For Improvement."
These cuddly cats, adorable dogs and other furry friends are just waiting for someone to take them home. But for now, their home is the Animal Rescue League of Boston.
Beverly Hardcastle, Animal Rescue League
"We're dedicated to helping animals that can't help themselves."
When this hardworking staff needs a little time to unwind, they head to their break room.
Beverly Hardcastle, Animal Rescue League
"We want them to be able to go in there, relax, stop thinking about work for a minute."
But this room is far from inviting!
Lisey Good, Good Interiors
"An institutional type room with really super bright fluorescent lights."
So designer Lisey Good steps in to change the mood of this room. And she's getting a lot of help, with donations from our friends at Bernie & Phyl's Furniture, Rocky's Ace Hardware and National Floors Direct.
The first switch is new lighting.
Lisey Good, Good Interiors
"I bought grass cloth that's often used for lampshades and I just covered the existing plastic sheets."
Painters from Mediate Management make those ugly green walls disappear with some soothing yellow paint.
Next up is new flooring.
Lisey Good, Good Interiors
"The new flooring is a vinyl product that can stand up to all the things that other flooring could, but looks much, much warmer."
Now comes some comfy seating including this table and chairs and a new loveseat with an ottoman.
Time to accessorize. Mirrors make the room look bigger, silver lamps add a little extra light and creative side table is the perfect accent.
Finally some ceiling-high shelving adds a lot of storage space.
Lisey Good, Good Interiors
"The shelving really was designed to be able to give them a kitchen type area. It really maximizes space by going all the way up the wall."
Now it's time for the staff to try it out.
Lisey Good, Good Interiors
"Come on in."
Animal Rescue League Staff
"Oh my God. It's is beautiful. Wow. Good luck getting any work out of us."
Looks like the staff members love their new loveseat. Everyone is all smiles thanks to generous donations that made this room special.
