Room For Improvement: Open Door/Cape Ann Food Pantry
Today we're heading to the Open Door/Cape Ann Food Pantry in Gloucester. It's the final stop in our month of special room makeovers. We're giving the pantry a bright pick me up to make it more welcoming for the people who use it. 7's Lauren Przybyl has this week's "Room For Improvement."
From fruits and vegetables, to bread and canned goods; for almost 30 years people have been able to rely on the Open Door/Cape Ann Food Pantry.

"And that's what we are here for, to give people a little bit of help to make it through a rough time."
So Room For Improvement designer Kris Shaffer is here to help give a little back to the pantry with the help of generous donations from Bernie & Phyl's Furniture, Rocky's Ace Hardware and Ikea.

"I'm all for making this place look great, but we need to stay functional."
Kris Shaffer, Inside Art
"We kind of decided that a country store theme or a little market would be nice."
It is time to say bye bye to this industrial space and hello to some warm colored paint donated by California Paint.
The huge shelving unit for canned food stays, but with a major facelift.
Kris Shaffer, Inside Art
"We refaced it, put bead board on it and we painted it."
New counter tops provide a lot of work space, new baskets are great for extra storage and additional metal shelving is both durable and changeable.
Kris Shaffer, Inside Art
"As they get various food products, they can move the shelves as they need."
And here's a great idea to organize the office area using a TV armoire.
Kris Shaffer, Inside Art
"We've made it into the fax, office, paper area and everything is very organized now and it's so much more functional."
Even the pantry's waiting area gets a boost.
Kris Shaffer, Inside Art
"Everybody walks through it so it really has to house a lot of people."
This is now the perfect pantry for people who need it.
Open Door/Cape Ann Food Pantry Board Members
"Oh wow. That's incredible. Look at that. This is amazing."
Every year the Open Door/Cape Ann Food Pantry serves more than 1200 households. They even hand out turkeys for the holidays. Thanks to generous donations and a lot of hard work, this pantry will help a lot of people for years to come.
The Open Door/Cape Ann Food Pantry would like to extend its gratitude to Project Bread for everything they do for them.
