Room For Improvement reports

From dark and dull to bright and beautiful, today we're heading to a historical Haverhill home to help perk up its fading foyer. 7's Lauren Przybyl has this week's "Room For Improvement."

From the outside, this historic house in Haverhill has a spectacular view. But walk inside and the view of the foyer is not as breathtaking.

Katherine Corthell, homeowner
"It had carpeting that was very old and needed to be replaced. The walls are just a dull, white color."

And this condo owner wants the entrance to her home to be as pleasant as the outside.

Katherine Corthell, homeowner
"I want it to be warm and inviting, and interesting so that you're drawn into the house."

Room for improvement designers Kimberly McBride and Nate Underwood know exactly how to make this front foyer bright and appealing to match the charming home.

Kimberly McBride, The Uncommon Room
"I really wanted to make sure it was something special so that when she came home she felt like it was her place."

Pale carpeting and a soft cream wall color create a welcoming atmosphere. Then new lights make the entranceway glow.

Kimberly McBride, The Uncommon Room
"We definitely needed to do something to lighten it up."

A rich brown table makes a great spot for dropping mail and a slipcover updates this comfortable chair.

Kimberly McBride, The Uncommon Room
"The functionality that you need when you come home."

Blue and green accents are added for a calming feel. Then family photos are placed on new shelves and Katherine's mother's blanket gives the space a special touch.

Kimberly McBride, The Uncommon Room
"One of the things we wanted to do was make it personal so that when people come through your front door, that they feel welcomed into your home."

Finally the closet gets a boost. The door is removed and glass shelves make it sparkle.

It's time for Katherine to enter into her home's new entrance.

Katherine Corthell, homeowner
"Oh my goodness. Oh this is beautiful."

This foyer definitely says welcome home. Our designer did it for under $1500.
