Room For Improvement reports

It's still winter time, but our design team is heading down to the Cape. They're getting a family's summer house ready for year-round living. 7's Lauren Przybyl has this week's "Room For Improvement."

This Cape Cod summer house needs to turn into a full time home.

Sharon Cabitt, homeowner
"The house is a 1960s ranch and Eddie and I often joke that it's the worst house in the best neighborhood in Falmouth, Massachusetts."

It's time to make this the best house on the block! And Julie Richer from Julie Richer Interiors is full of ideas.

Julie Richer, Julie Richer Interiors
"We wanted this to look as if it was timeless so that if in 5 years from now Sharon and Ed decide to move down here year round, they don't feel like they have to re-design the whole room. And this home has been in Ed's family for a while, but nothing had been updated for about 30 years."

So this place is due for a facelift. The mantel gets a brand new look.

Julie Richer, Julie Richer Interiors
"The brick was a little bit outdated. We also wanted to change the floor plan a little bit by adding built-in book cases for storage as well as to hold the TV so we wouldn't have two separate focal points in the room."

The paint is a neutral color, which allows the red accents in this room to pop!

Julie Richer, Julie Richer Interiors
"We wanted this house to look 'capey,' but not look 'cottagey,' so we wanted to have a more sophisticated palette."

Finding furniture was not a problem because the couple has a lot of nice antique pieces that have been passed down.

Julie Richer, Julie Richer Interiors
"Those were important too when we were putting together the floor plan."

Instead of the traditional blue Cape Cod seashell theme, our designer accessorized with some unique items. Antique postcards add some pizzazz. This one shows the Cape Cod Canal.

Julie Richer, Julie Richer Interiors
"Trying to bring in the Cape Cod feel without becoming cliché. And it's a collection that she can develop overtime."

What does our couple think?

Sharon Cabitt, homeowner
"Ooohhhh!"

Ed Cabitt, homeowner
"Oh, Sharon."

Sharon Cabitt, homeowner
"Oh my God, I love it! It's beautiful. This is perfect!"

They sure love it. This was a $12,000 redo, but that includes new wood flooring, new built-ins, the beautiful mantel and new furniture that makes this room ready for anyone to enjoy.
