Room For Improvement: Cambridge condo
Tonight our design team is heading to Cambridge to help one homeowner get her condo ready for having guests. 7's Lauren Przybyl has this week's "Room For Improvement."
The main rooms in this Cambridge condo flow right into each other. It seems like it would be the perfect place for entertaining, but our young homeowner says forget about it.
Denise Ferreira, homeowner
"I wouldn't bring anybody over at all because it was just so desolate."
And Denise Ferreira knows what she wants from designer Nancy Gouveia-Fentross of Bona Fide Designs.
Denise Ferreira, homeowner
"I asked her if she can make it warm and inviting, put more seating in the room, make it look bigger because we are working with a very small space here. My apartment's only 508 square feet."
First a rust color is applied to the kitchen walls. And our painter from Neil Niven and Son Painting says choosing the right finish is important to make the room brighter.

"That's an eggshell finish which you want because it throws a little bit of light back into the room as opposed to a flat."
When you have an open space like this one, make sure your color palette stays the same to bring the rooms together.
Nancy Gouveia-Fentross, Bona Fide Designs
"She absolutely loved a lot of the gold, and brown and rust colors."
The rust color is carried into the living room in the drapes. They hang from ceiling to floor to make the eight foot ceiling appear taller.
The furniture is then rearranged to help people walk through the room with ease.
Nancy Gouveia-Fentross, Bona Fide Designs
"What we did essentially was we just flipped the furniture to the other side of the room."
And forget having just a ceiling light. It's not enough!
Nancy Gouveia-Fentross, Bona Fide Designs
"What we did is we introduced some swing arm lamps above the sofa so that when she's sitting there reading she'll have some lighting."
And when looking for accessories, take a trip down memory lane. Photos our homeowner took on a recent vacation were just the right touch.
Denise Ferreira, homeowner
"Oh my goodness! This is amazing! This is absolutely amazing!"
I think our homeowner can finally have friends over to her home now.
For under $1500 our designer spiced up this space to create an environment made for entertaining.
