Room For Improvement: South Shore living room

"We have three kids and we wanted a space where they could have a bunch of friends over and we knew we needed more seating room, but I didn't know where to put chairs. We were really perplexed about how to make the most use of the room."

Enter designer Robin Pelissier with the solution.

"Our ultimate goal for this space was to add a lot of color, to add some youth and some glamour."

But first she has to make this open space homey. And it all starts with a huge wool rug.

"By adding this full size carpet it really unified the space and made it much warmer and much cozier."

The family's couch stays with a little boost.

"We kept the client's sectional and just added some really fun pillows to it."

And for extra seating glamorous and fun chairs are added.

"They're really tall and oversized and that compensated for the fact that we didn't put window treatments in the room. But the height and the weight and the print on these chairs really give the room a lot of weight and a lot of warmth."

Remember, if you have a big room you need big pieces of furniture. The family's beautiful buffet table is turned into a bar area perfect for entertaining. And a console table fits perfectly underneath the floating television.
