Room For Improvement reports

From outdated to in-style, today our design team is heading to Framingham to give a couple a long overdue bedroom makeover. 7's Lauren Przybyl has this week's "Room For Improvement."

The Gagliardi's want to inject a refreshing seaside atmosphere into their uninspiring master bedroom.

Liz Gagliardi, homeowner
"Basically it's got furniture that I've had since high school, which was really in, in the 80s. We've been married for 10 years and we're due to do a little upgrade."

Michael Gagliardi, homeowner
"We like the ocean and we like, kinda like the blue colors and so we're, ya know, that's exactly what we're looking for."

The dated furniture is on it's way out and designer Mary Jean Keany is on her way in to make a splash in this bedroom.

Mary Jean Keany, Anamika Design
"I really felt that to give the room a feeling of importance it needed an architectural element."

So this bare wall is given a major makeover by Michael Camarano.

Michael Camarano, MWC Custom Interiors
"There are actually three, three cubes together stacked on top of each other and they have a back already on them and we just screwed them together and fastened them to the wall."

And the negative, or empty, space in this wood built-in is just as important as the accessories.

Mary Jean Keany, Anamika Design
"Because you want the eye to relax. It's a calming effect for the person who's living in the room."

And the new color needs to be calming too! So Jane Considine mixes shades of blue with white to give the walls subtle texture using a "cross-hatch" design.

Jane Considine, Jane Considine Studio
"The coloration gives it the feeling of the seaside or the sky, nature really."

Fabric elements are very important to a room, even the new headboard is covered in cloth.

Mary Jean Keany, Anamika Design
"Makes the room more cozy."

Sandy colored draperies cover the whole wall.

Mary Jean Keany, Anamika Design
"The drapery wall really makes the room so soft and comfortable. It helps with acoustics; it also helps with the whole overall ambiance of the room."

Then family heirlooms make the perfect wall accents.

It's time to bring Liz and Michael into their new retreat.

Liz Gagliardi, homeowner
"Oh wow, look at the room!"

Michael Gagliardi, homeowner
"Wow, this looks great."

Liz Gagliardi, homeowner
"Look at the bed! Oh my goodness. It looks so much nicer than it was!"

This breathtaking bedroom cost just under $3500 to re-do. We think it's going to be a relaxing retreat.
