Room For Improvement: Methuen bedroom
Getting a good night's sleep can be tough if you're sick of the way your bedroom looks. That's the case with the Moretto family of Methuen. 7's Chikage Windler shows how our Design Team finds the cure to an ill-chosen color scheme in this week's "Room For Improvement."
"Hi, I'm here!" says designer Melanie Murphy of Redecorating by Melanie in Reading.
Designer Melanie Murphy diagnoses the biggest problem in this Methuen bedroom: its color.
Homeowner Melissa Moretto says it looks like "Pepto Bismal. It's very pink. And even my woodwork, I painted pink, and I think that's just a little too much. Too much pink for one bedroom."
The goal: correct this color crisis with a look that's warm, soft, and welcoming.
"That's gotta go," says Chikage Windler as she removes some art from the wall.
First step: getting rid of the old decor.
Next, getting Fenway Painters' Jay Smith on the job to make this "pink monster" a sandy brown.
Melanie Murphy from Redecorating by Melanie says, "we did a monochromatic look and it just came out fabulous. We used a lot of warm brown tones."
That means the old maroon bedding is out. This neutral beige is in.
Melanie adds, "and then we have a cocoa colored blanket that we're going to be putting on top of it, and a coverlet."
The cold, uninviting window seat is fitted with a custom cushion, cashmere blanket, and pillows.
"It's a nice cozy area for the family to go to and to read in, and really just warmed up the room," says Melanie.
New artwork goes up on the walls, accessories go into place, and in just one day, it's a whole new room.
Melanie says, "the family loved the warm, rich brown colors and that's something I was able to work off of."
When the family finally sees it...
"Oh my god! Oh wow!" exclaims Melissa Moretto.
...they're tickled pink that their bedroom isn't pink anymore.
Melissa says, "I love the room. I think it looks absolutely fantastic."
The Moretto's budget was $2000 and our Design Team came in at $1100, leaving lots for future furniture buys.
