Kids today are busy juggling school sports and fun, but when it comes to snack time they don't always make a healthy choice. But Juli Auclair tells us about a nutritious new energy bar that's good for kids on the go.

There's a snack bar for just about everyone; active adults in of an need an energy boost, people looking to lose weight, even pregnant women wanting something a little extra. But what about one for busy kids on the run?

Deb Luster-Founder, Can Do Kids
"They needed something that they could take with them that was healthy."

"Can-Do Kid Bars" are joining the ranks of the energy bars on store shelves everywhere. And now for the Kaster kids of Newton, when it comes to snack time they're no longer headed for the junk drawer.

Evan Kaster, 8-years-old, Newton
"They taste like chocolate."

The bars were the brainchild of Deb Luster and a group of stay-at home moms frustrated with the snacks options available for their own children to eat.

Deb Luster
"Organic and natural was really really important so that my kids were eating healthy foods, and we all got together and decided what we wanted to see in a bar."

So it was back to class, but this time to learn from the kids. From taste tests to packaging, this fun fare is officially kid tested and kid approved.

Miles Lundgren
"They're really good."

Caroline Frost
"And they make me feel better."

Sarah Luster
"They can be healthy but have chocolate in them at the same time."

There's no high fructose corn syrup or trans fats, and that's good news according to health professionals.

Caroline M. Apovian M.D., Dir. Nutrition & Weight Management, Boston Medical Center
"64 percent of Americans are either overweight or obese."

And according to the Center for Disease Control adolescent obesity rates are at an all time high.

Dr. Apovian
"I would call it epidemic."

Dr. Appovian says that's because of junk food and in-activity. She says these bars should not replace a balanced meal but are a great alternative to candy, soda and chips.

Dr. Apovian
"No other candy bar is going to come close to something like this that actually has nutrient value."

But the company message goes beyond just tasty treats.

Deb Luster
"Just by saying the words 'I can' it changes everything."

Sydney Kaster 8-years-old, Newton

"You just have to try, like nothing is impossible."

A lesson even grown-ups may be in need of reminding now then.

Can do kids bars do contain peanuts for those have allergies. They are now available at Whole Foods Markets.
