Special Report: Kickball for adults
Oh yes, yes ladies and gentlemen. It's kickball like you've never seen it before, and it's the hottest new sport hitting the hub.
But this isn't the kickball you remember in 3rd grade; this is serious stuff!
"Kickball is actually huge," Josh Bob of the World Adult Kickball Association says. "WAKA has 20,000 players nationwide."
WAKA started up in 1998, and Massachusetts already boasts four divisions with more coming soon.
"We're open to anyone 21 and over, young professionals, Bob says. "A lot of them are here looking for the kickball experience and the social experience."
Kickball is a lot like baseball, with three strikes your out, and four balls you walk. Another great rule, you can actually hit the player with ball as long as its below the head. But don't be fooled, this game is a lot more than four bases and a big ball.
Player Suzy Carr says she likes playing the game and also going out after.
"I like both of them, although the hanging out afterwards takes longer." Carr says.
"You go and relax with the team you just competed against, and have a great time, meet professional all over Boston," player LJ Taylor says. "That's a big part of it as well."
So if you're looking for exercise, join a social scene, have good time, kickball may be the sport for you.
