Special Report: Bronze beauty
Hollywood stars may sun the sun, but still get that golden glow. Now, you can get the star spray on treatment in your own home. 7NEWS puts this tan to the test. Can this home tanning treatment make you a "Bronze Beauty?"
Beauties, like Lindsay Lohan, J. Lo and Charlize Theron, always seem to be sun-kissed without the sun damage. What is their celebrity secret? They spend thousands to have a pro airbrush them a perfect tan, and now, one company says there's a way for you to get that same kind of golden glow right in your own home.
Rebecca Cook, Fusion Beauty.
"The AirGlow Airbrush gun [is] absolutely incredible."
Its makers say this is the first airbrush technology you can use yourself.
Rebecca Cook, Fusion Beauty.
"You don't have to worry about blending it in. You just spray it, and you're set to go. So, it's so convenient."
The air gun sprays a sheer self-tanning mist that is supposed to distribute color evenly over your body, avoiding the streaks and stains many people get when using self-tan lotions. 7NEWS put this new tan to the test.
Caitlyn Thrift, tan tester
"I don't want to turn orange or streaky."
Amy Garanin, tan tester
"The idea of having it spray on seems like it could eliminate some of my human error."
Jessica Lynn, tan tester
"I'm definitely worried about the application. It looks a little scary."
The process seems easy enough: pour the cocoa tanning solution into the gun, twist it tight, then just point and shoot. Armed and ready to "glow," the ladies sprayed away. A few days later, 7NEWS "checked in" to "check them out."
Amy Garanin, tan tester
"It's a pretty light tan, but it's a good color."
Jessica Lynn, tan tester
"It's a very healthy and natural-looking glow."
Caitlyn Thrift, tan tester
"I am lighter than I thought, but browner than I thought. I thought for sure I'd be orange."
Our testers say they didn't get as dark as they thought they would, but they did like the subtle color. And they say it was easy to use, after a little practice.
Amy Garanin, tan tester
"I did get a couple of streaks and some spots, but the second time, I didn't streak."
They also liked the fact that the spray didn't stain any of their clothes and didn't have a funny smell that can sometimes come with self-tanners.
Amy Garanin, tan tester
"The smell was the best part. My whole room smelled like chocolate and caramel."
Jessica Lynn, tan tester
"It smelled like a pina colada"
The spray only takes about five minutes to dry, and the makers say it actually nourishes your skin, because it's packed with antioxidants. But unlike the sun, this tan is not free. The AirGlow gun and a kit for a few tans costs $175.
Amy Garanin, tan tester
"I don't think I'd go out and pay $150, $170 for it."
Caitlyn Thrift, tan tester
"I would definitely continue to use it again."
To help you get those hard to reach spots, our testers say grab a friend, and then, you are only a spray away from being a "Bronze Beauty."
