Pillow fighting pros

They push, they pummel and they pound. The ref screams, "Fight like a girl!" Then, the pillows start to fly.

These are the ladies of the "Pillow Fight League," the world's first ever all-female troop of fighting women, whose weapon of choice is a pillow.

"Honestly, I wasn't expecting that, but it's probably the most entertaining thing I've ever seen," said one fan.

"They're so into it. They're so aggressive, and at the same time, it's a pillow fight. It's so cool," added another fan.

The league, which was started in Canada, has more than 20, curvy contenders, with names as unique as their "in the ring" antics.

There's tired and cranky Lynn Somnia, brainy Sarah Bellum, and Boston's own international woman of mystery, Jane Doe.

"I took karate in Boston, so I looked around for other things just to get exercise and aggressions out, and this seemed like such a fun idea," Jane said.

This Brookline High School graduate works in public relations by day, but at night, she transforms into her pillow fighting persona.

"Every time we have a show people are like, 'I didn't expect it to be like that. I thought it was going to be girls in lingerie, that kind of stuff, but you guys are really fighting, and you're hurting each other!'" said Jane.

The rules are simple: no biting, scratching or hair-pulling. Other than that, it's no holds barred, as long as the punches are performed with a pillow.

"This is a bruise I got. It was a brutal fight." said pillow fighter Vic Payback, showing off her upper arm.

"We're not out to hurt each other. It happens, because we're fighting. It's a whirlwind," said Jane.

The brains behind the league, Commissioner Stacey P. Case, said he came up with the idea after watching a burlesque group stage a fake fight.

"We've created a sport out of something everyone knows, and there's never been rules or regulations applied to it before until us," Case said.

On this night, there was nothing soft about the main event. Boozy Suzy challenged the undisputed champion, Champain, and they went the distance. In a tie-breaker, Boozy was crowned the new cushion queen.

"I'm really excited about this! I feel like Miss America or something," Boozy Suzy said after her title-winning bout.

So after a night of pillow pummeling, it's back to the daily grind for these fiery fighters, who are eager for the next time they can transform back into "Pillow Fighting Pros."

The Pillow Fight League is coming to New England. They have a fight scheduled for September in New Hampshire, and you won't want to miss it.
