Dorothy in Wizard of Oz play "There really is no place like home."

This little dog knows all too well how important a home is. After being caged in a shelter, he took center stage in this college performance of "Wizard of Oz'

This adorable pooch, whose real name is Sammy, was left at a shelter because his owners couldn't keep him anymore.

Around the same time, Lindsey and her mom wanted a pet.

"We both just fell in love with Sammy. His personality, when we went up to the cage he would stick his nose up to the fencing, and he would start waging his tail whenever he saw us.

Sammy's owner thought her pooch had star potential, so she entered him in a canine competition.

Up against 11 four legged friends for the part of toto, sweet natured Sammy was the pick of the litter.

Sammy immediately took to who ever else were around him. Adorable, cuddly doesn't look anything like toto from the film, but after that second round I knew Sammy was the one and he had to be Toto.

And Lindsey couldn't be more proud of her pet, who by the way turned out a star performance as toto.

Dorothy from Wizard of Oz play: "And the dreams that to dare to dream really do come true."

For this little dog, dreams certainly do come true.

As far as Sammy's acting career, his owner hopes he gives Lassie and Scooby Doo a run for their money.
