Special Report: Scoring seats for the Sox
Getting a ticket to see the World Champion Red Sox isn't easy. Or is it? Sam Kennedy, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Sox says like the team - you too can achieve the impossible dream.
"There are tickets available and there are ways to get tickets for Red Sox games even up to the day of the game," he says.
Sam says the team is required to hold back seats for their opponents - even the Yankees! The seats they don't use are put back into the mix. The challenge you face - getting your hands on them.
The Sox box office often throws curveball. Whether it's online or on the phone, if you strike out at first - keep swinging. You next click or call could be a hit. So just because it says 'Sold-Out', people in the know say keep trying.
"As tickets become available we stagger the release of those tickets to get into the general circulation," Kennedy says.
You can also 'catch' a ticket outside of Gate B. That's where fans with extras can resell them legally - and without a mark-up.
Kennedy re-assures fans, "The tickets will be scanned right on the spot so you know they are valid and you dont have to deal with scalpers."
Season ticket holders list their unwanted seats for sale online in a Red Sox program called Replay. For $50 a year, you can cover the bases with access to that list, and buy their extras at face value.
"You know if if you want em bad enough you'll get em you'll definitely get em," one die-hard fan says.
And if you do want them bad enough - you'll wait in line. One Sox fan I talked to had been in the day-ofgame ticket relase line since 10 in the morning. But the waiting for the right pitch could pay-off; the Sox release about 300 of them before every home game.
"We allow people to start lining up about five hours before the start of the game and they go on sale about two hours before the start of the game.
