Pre-K Tutors

Special Report: Pre-K Tutors

"Is this a lower case or upper case? Uppercase!"

Five Year-Old Sofia Is Spending Her Summer, Not In Camp or On The Beach - But In The Classroom.

Mom
"I had to decide whether it was reading or ballet for the summer break"

More and more parents are making the decision that the best thing for their pre-schooler - is school.

Dr. Richard Bavaria
"We had parents tell us that they were eager for their young children -- four and a half year old children - to be able to get a leg up to be able to have more confidence when they got ready for kindergarten."

Mom
"I was aiming for her to know more things so when she's called on in class to have more confidence to put her hand up because she knows it."

As more kids are taking more and more pre-school, kindergarten curriculum is becoming more advanced.

Dr. Richard Bavaria
"Academics that kids are learning in kindergarten now were traditionally taught in the first grade."

So private tutoring centers, like sylvan learning offer one-on-one tutoring for kids as young as four, but many experts believe that's just too young and doesn't allow kids time to be kids.

"They might miss a piece of our social life that is critical for them."

"Can you print five uppercase b's for me? Very good."

For Sofia's mom hopes, an hour of playtime missed may translate to future success.
