The sleepy town of Townsend marks its 275th anniversary this year... and needs money to fund the celebration.
And of all the fundraising ideas... the unlikeliest came from the ladies of Atwood Acres Home for Seniors.

"I said to her, ‘Would you like to pose for a nude calendar?’ And she said ‘Why not?’"
The idea was Lu Porter's... and she had no problem convincing 16 women - all over the age of 75 - to join in.

"And once they started they didn't have any trouble at all."
Inspired by the characters in the movie "Calendar Girls" who also got nude for charity... the self-proclaimed "Atwood Cuties" shed their clothes and posed for pictures.
Ninty-three year old Millie Smith - known as the "motorcycle mama" - is Miss August.

"Well we just thought we'd show that we weren't dead yet."
Mission accomplished.
The calendar - which goes on sale this spring - is the talk of the town... even if the men at the local barbershop refused to comment.
As for the pin up girls, they have no regrets...

"It didn't bother me a bit... I just took my clothes off and did my best."
But Miss June - 94-year-old Olive Steers - does wonder...

"Did my grandmother do this?"
Probably not... but perhaps she just never had the chance. And who knows... for these ladies this bold move may lead to bigger things.
"I got a call asking 'Is this Playboy?'... it was my grandson from Pennsylvania."
