Sox GM Theo Epstein

Special Report: Sox GM Theo Epstein

Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein can be spotted in the stands rooting for his team in the World Series...but Epstein has a fan club of his own.

Jesse Harrington, Brookline High Student
"Really respected, well respected guy, and we all look up to him."

Karen Kuskin-Smith, Brookline High Guidance Counselor
"Knowing that one of our own is leading the show -- makes everything that much more special."

Faculty and staff at Brookline High remember the 30-year-old Sox executive when he was a student here 18 years ago. Even then he was wild about baseball.

Dr. Bob Weintraub, Brookline High Headmaster
"I think he did his senior paper on baseball statistics, if I'm not mistaken.  He loved baseball."

Epstein is remembered here as an all-around-smart kid. No one is surprised that at 28 he became the youngest general manager in the history of Major League Baseball.

Carol Dyer, Headmaster's Secretary
"He was taught to be a thinker in his classes here."

And what about the executive decisions he's made as Sox GM?

Jesse Harrington, Brookline High Student
"Great. When he traded Nomar...I said, oh no, but actually it's turned out really well."

While getting ready for Game 3, the teachers and coaches we talked to who watched Theo Epstein grow up playing baseball on these fields say they're not worried a bit. They say they know Theo Epstein has what it takes to help the Sox finally reverse the curse.
