Special Report: Manny Ramirez and Family
It's not unusual when somebody named Ramirez is the talk of Boston. But it is unusual when the first names are Juliana, and Manny Jr. Both are gracing the cover of Boston Magazine.
Jon Marcus, Boston Magazine Editor
"It's a very well-timed cover here - we're getting a lot of attention, people calling asking where they can pick it up."
On the inside, more pictures of Juliana, a full-time mom, but looking like a fashion model.
Her husband is notoriously shy. His family, until now, even more so. It certainly surprised the magazine's editor Jon Marcus and reporter Erin Byers when Juliana said yes.
Erin Byers, Interviewed Ramirez Family
"She was a little nervous and a little shy about doing the photo shoot and being dressed up and being on the cover of a magazine -- but once we got her to come out of her shell a little bit, she had a good time with it. "
As for the very healthy looking Manny Jr., we know where he got the hair from.
Jon Marcus, Boston Magazine Editor
"Manny Jr. looks so much like his father that people joked with us that it looked like we took Manny's head and photoshopped it on the child's body."
Even Manny Sr. gets into the act, saying he cried when he proposed to Juliana. Another tidbit? His favorite family breakfast food: egg white omelets. Hey, when you make $22.5 million, you can afford to waste a few yolks.
One reason why the Ramirez family can be reclusive is because English is not their first language, so they don't always feel comfortable in a crowd. But no one should knock their speaking skills. They are tri-lingual, speaking English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
